How Do You Punish Someone With Attachment Disorder Punishing A Child With Reactive Attachment Disorder?

Punishing a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder? - how do you punish someone with attachment disorder

My son is 17 and is constantly lying. Nothing seems to make no difference. Recently, truancy, and then lied about it. I think you may suffer from this disorder, and I can not punish them for, what she has done. Suggestions?

Punishment is not an effective method for helping children internalize your values, beliefs, and morals. Punishment is about retribution; consequences are about cause-effect. It is important to FIRST determine what is really causing the behavior you are concerned about. For example, not telling the truth can be "driven" by overwhelming shame, fear, or low self-esteem leading to a fear of rejection, etc. etc. Each cause requries a different therpeutic response.

I suggest you look at the Therapeutic Parenting Manual published by ATTACh.
